Sexual Health

If you or your partner are experiencing problems related to your sexual health know you are not alone. Statistics show that sexual dysfunction is largely prevalent in both men and women in the United States, and has been described as an urgent public health problem by the National Institutes of Health Consensus Panel. There can be several contributing factors leading to sexual health problems including stress, age, and prescription medication side effects. However, there are just as many treatments available to help you overcome these undesirable symptoms. We know that sexual health problems can affect you physically and emotionally, and are here to help you regain your self confidence.

At Southeast Compounding Pharmacy we can compound a large variety of medications to treat symptoms such as low libido/sexual desire, vaginal dryness and irritation, orgasm difficulties, pain during sex, hormone imbalances, and erectile dysfunction. We can also prepare these medications in a variety of dosage forms including injectables, creams, capsules, tablets, and troches.

Erectile Dysfunction

Erectile dysfunction affects over 18 million men in the United States. At Southeast Compounding Pharmacy we compound several medications that aid men who struggle with a poor quality sex life caused by hormonal imbalances, heart disease, psychological problems, low testosterone levels, lack of energy, and diminished or non-existent sexual arousal. Our most common ED medications include Bimix, Trimix, Quadmix, and Alprostadil.

Oral medications

Most of the commonly prescribed oral ED medications act by enhancing the effects of nitric oxide, the chemical released upon stimulation that relaxes the muscles in the penis allowing blood to flow. Taking these medications will not automatically cause an erection. Stimulation is still needed to release the nitric oxide from your nerves. Some of the popular oral medications include:

-Sildenafil (Viagra)
-Tadalafil (Adcirca, Cialis)
-Vardenafil (Levitra, Staxyn)
-Avanafil (Stendra)

Injectable Medications

-Alprostadil (Caverject, Edex)
The only FDA approved mono therapy penile injection, Alprostadil acts by stimulating the production of cAMP (Cyclic adenosine monophosphate) in both penile smooth muscle and blood vessels. A cascade of events leads to muscle relaxation and a rigid erection.4 Unlike oral ED medications it does not rely on the Nitric Oxide pathway, making it a great alternatives for men who did not respond to this mechanism of action.

-Papaverine/Phentolamine (Bimix)
Bimix injections are great for men who are sensitive to a very low dose of of the ED injectable medication. It is composed of two components, papaverine, a vasdodialating agent that relaxes the smooth muscles in the penis allowing blood to flow in by widening blood vessels, and phentolamine mesylate, an alpha blocker that prevents excitatory signals to blood vessels that normally keep blood flow constricted.4

Papaverine/Phentolamine/Aprostadil (Trimix)
A combination of the three vasoactive ingredients described above, Trimix uses several mechanisms of actions to achieve an erection such as decreasing smooth muscle and blood vessel contraction and increasing blood vessel dilation. Several studies have shown that men have achieved a very high satisfaction rate when using Trimix injections in combination with oral ED medications.

Papaverine/Phentolamine/Aprostadil/Atropine sulfate (Quadmix)
Alongside the three active ingredients found in Trimix injections, Quadmix also contains atropine sulfate which inhibits nervous system receptors responsible for smooth muscle control, essentially providing increased smooth muscle relaxation.

Low Libido/Sexual Desire

Various psychological and physical factors can affect libido in men and women, but the most common cause is an imbalance in testosterone levels. Both men and women have this hormone which is responsible for producing sexual desire.

Oxytocin

A naturally occurring hormone that is released during childbirth, oxytocin has also been proven to assist in heightening sexual arousal and stimulation in both men and women. At Southeast Compounding Pharmacy we can compound oxytocin into a cream, nasal spray, or troche.

Testosterone

Perhaps the most important hormone responsible for sexual arousal, testosterone can be compounded as a cream, injectable, gel, or troche.

DHEA

A steroid hormone and the precursor of androgens (testosterone) in women, low levels DHEA have been associated with higher risk of erectile dysfunction in men and low sexual responsiveness in women.
