Ophthalmology

Ophthalmology refers to the branch of medicine and surgery that deals with the diagnosis and treatment of eye disorders. Conditions that ophthalmologists frequently treat include cataracts, conjunctivitis, chronic dry eye, diabetic retinopathy, fungal eye infections, glaucoma, styes, and muscular degeneration. The commercially available products that are prescribed to treat these conditions may not be suitable for everyone for a variety of reasons. Some people may be allergic to the preservatives found in the medication, in which case our expert team of compounding technicians would prepare the solution without the aggravating preservatives. Other common issues include the commercially available product not being available in the correct strength or dosage form that is most effective for a certain patient, or the FDA approved product having a long back order.

Ophthalmic compounding is less common than other forms of compounding as a sterile lab is required among other specialized forms of equipment. Luckily, Southeast Compounding Pharmacy is equipped with a state-of-the-art sterile lab run by an expert team of sterile compounding technicians that takes your vision as seriously as you do. Our team can compound anything from eye injections used by doctors when performing surgeries on the retina or treating glaucoma, to commonly used eye drops containing antibiotics, steroids, or anesthetics.
